First Aid

First aid is the help given to any person suffering from a sudden illness or injury, with care given to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, and / or promote recovery. It includes initial intervention in severe conditions before professional medical help being available, such as performing CPR waiting ambulance, as well as the complete treatment of minor conditions, such as the application of a plaster to a cut. First aid is normally performed by the layman, with many people trained in providing basic levels of first aid, and others willing to do it acquired knowledge. Mental Health First Aid is an extension of the first aid concept to cover mental health.
There are many situations that may require first aid, and many countries have legislation, regulations, or guidance that specifies a minimum level of emergency care in certain circumstances. This may include special training or equipment to be available in the workplace (for example, an automated external defibrillator), the provision of first aid specialist coverage at public meetings, or first aid training compulsory in schools. First aid, however, does not necessarily require special equipment or prior knowledge, and may involve the improvisation with materials available at the time, often by untrained persons
